Feedback on Website Wording, Please

stephanie's picture

Hello there,

I am trying to get a new website in some semblance of order today as I am being interviewed for an online radio show tomorrow and I'm hoping people will visit the new site.

The website is about EFT, a healing modality. If you have a moment to go there and look on the left-hand side where it says "EFT 101," let me know if any of that makes sense to you, especially if you are new to EFT.

Thanks in advance!

A New Word for 'Blog'

AryeDirect's picture

Warning: What follows is less than meets the eye.

I have this thing about ugly words and phrases.

Kinda like going into an old delicatessen and having to order sandwiches named after some long-dead comedian. After all, who wants to eat a MiltonBerle, or a JackE.Leonard, or a JerryLewis (not technically dead)? Not me.

Getting to my minimalist point here.

I love blogging. I'm hooked so badly that my eyeballs are about to fall out. Blogging stirs up so many endorphins in my brain that I'm getting dizzy, ready to fall over, just in writing this post.

Okay, blogging is great. It adds meaning to life, for the reader and the writer. And it might even earn us some money.

BUT, the word 'blog' looks and sounds, well, ugly. Hateful even.

So here's what I propose: A contest to create a new term for what we do. The new word should be as elegant and intriguing as the experience.

The Grand...

I have been watching the changes of the world in the past twenty years, how drastic or dramatic it was and is.
There are lots of things that scares me, but what makes me wonder the most is the condition of the earth right now; we humans are taking as much as we can from it, like is never going to end, everything ends. The way we are fishing the ocean is terrible, we are killing hundreds of species and have extincted another hundreds, because is never enough! All the deforestation is going on with the wilds forests, for example the Amazon, we are actually destroying the world's lungs, our lungs.
The ocean and the air smells different... What is going on with us?
I want to have a kid, someday. I'd love to experience creating another human been inside of me, the most natural pain of the birth, the first look and raising him or her. I dream with that, in a future.

Exclusive content for online sites - Yes or No?

I have been looking around for sites on which I can generate some extra cash for writing, with varying degrees of success.

Here's my question: What do you folks think of sites that require exclusive content from their contributors?

In some cases, I'm OK with it. McSweeney's, for example, is a site that I plan to submit to eventually, and I don't mind that they require content exclusivity. They have the reputation to back it up, and although they don't offer compensation, the exposure would be great. That and the fact that Dave Eggers is behind McSweeney's, and he is on my top five living writers list.

In other cases, I'm not so sure. Triond, for example, rejected a piece that I wrote because it appeared on my blog (I didn't read the rules very closely, apparently). With so many fly-by-night companies, and companies that really don't have the pull to be able to get anything back to the writer for their effort, I am pretty skeptical.

My first attempt at combining video with writing

Julie_Baumler's picture

I just wrote my first combined video and text article. I've commented on video before, but this time I actually took my camera and set out to capture video to illustrate what I wanted to write about and tried to integrate the two into a single whole.

I'd love some critiques if anyone is interested.

Is this a relaxed or stressed dog?

Submitting manuscript on-line: how safe? worthwhile?

After several attempts to have someone publish a story for you, how reasonable and safe is it to submit content/manuscript in this forum? Is it reasonable to submit a chapter at a time to see if there is any interest? Or is this completely "barking up the wrong tree" and traditional publishing should be continued to be pursued.
