Unknowingly, I was the one who first brought the seeds of destruction to my village.
The tiny settlement of Kindiri is no different than thousands of other villages that dot the vast African continent. Its history, intertwining legend, custom and psychology, has been directly passed on through ancient and mystical rites and oral tradition from the very beginning to the present.
Here there is no running water, no electricity and no pollution from commerce or technology. Kindiri is an untamed beauty. The village is centered within an invisible world of sorcerers, diviners and snake-children, sharing the land with lions, leopards and elephants, surrounded by impenetrable savanna and impulsive rivers.
Writers seek publishers; this is a constant activity that many times has no results. It is true that some markets are in easy reach of most writers, especially in USA. In Europe things are slightly different; not all publishers possess an English language site and writers encounter problems in examining it and contacting the publisher.
In Greece, for example, most publishers’ sites are in Greek, and only the big publishers have built a multilingual site. In this case, writers can not research the market properly, let alone contact a publisher in Greece. Greece is a new exciting marketplace that all writers should be able to explore and, why not, find a suitable publisher for their work.
There are Greek publishers that seek foreign writers in order to get their work translated into Greek and then promote it in the Greek book market.
But how can writers find these publishers?
I always have to push it to the limit. It amazes me that I still have all my limbs. I learned of my mortality on Christmas Eve. I was going home for the holiday.
I always liked the eastbound I-80 drive, yet I was evidently anxious to reach my mom's house. My '97 Acura was a hand-me-down from my poppa and it began to glide past 90 mph. So there I was, flying just above the pavement! I felt invincible! Little did I know, a instantaneous alteration in my surroundings would soon completely alter my life.
Today’s lesson is on “How to be the Best Capitalist,” and the gurus who’ll be leading the forum are really the cream of the crop. Follow their simple rules for success and ensure that your family will be better off for generations to come.
Rule Number One: We all want things for our families, right? Family is still an important thing to many people, and wanting nice things for them is only natural. Wanting only the best things for them is a duty around here, and not only for one’s own family, but for that family’s next three or four generations. Turns out that the only way to really ensure that kind of security is to amass vast amounts of wealth and power, two things that are, shall we say, hard to stumble upon. Remember, it’s not GREED if it’s *for the family*.
If you’ve read my blog you know I am getting acquainted with a new life in Boston, M.A. Today I took the time to change my phone number to a local one and then sent text messages to everyone in my contact list, letting them know my new number. One of my old students replied and, much to my surprise, he said he was also here in Boston. My happiness turned to sadness as he informed that he would soon be shipped out to Baghdad for the second time in less than two years.
The following story is set in a Basic English class that I taught at a university in Puerto Rico, and based on a very painful memory this student shared with me and the rest of his classmates over six months ago. I pray that he’ll return safely.
