I work in a very nice building in downtown Seattle. The lobby is really a work of art, in my opinion, and I enjoy walking through it every morning and afternoon. It definitely lends a very classy atmosphere to the whole building.
About my only complaint about the layout of the building is that our offices are at the opposite end of the floor from the restrooms, which means that any time we hear the call of nature, we have to take a bit of a walk to answer. I suppose this isn't entirely bad; it does give me a good way to get a bit of activity in, and keeps me from being tied to a small area for the entire day.
It also gives me interesting moments in my workday, on occasion. Today, as I started the trek down the hall, I noticed bright yellow "Wet Floor" signs in the middle of the first hallway on my route. In addition to the bright yellow signs (did I mention they were BRIGHT yellow), the building had one of the maintenance people posted there, to warn anyone who walked past that the floor might be a little damp. (For the record, I think it was just about bone dry when I crossed this stretch of hallway.)
I suspect this is all related to liability issues and such, but I look at it in two ways:
1) Are people really so self-absorbed that they wouldn't notice the two BRIGHT yellow signs at either end of this 10 foot section of hallway?
2) So this guy's job, for 15 minutes or so, was to stand in the hallway and politely tell people to be cautious? I wonder how much he makes...
